Re: What do you listen to?

I'm listening to this right now:

http://workbenchrecordings.com/posts/ja … br-28.html

An old friend of mine named James Beaudreau covering Deerhoof's "Fresh Born." He plays all the instruments. James is one of those wondrous New York City secrets; a truly gifted guitarist/musician hidden somewhat anonymously among the bustling throng. Fortunately, he built this website. The volume and quality of the work on it speaks for itself in my opinion. Alright, there's the plug.

Re: What do you listen to?

Zany? Yes, but these guys can play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eYIa9ZTCLQ

Listen to it all the way through for a brilliant example of how to use a musical quote ("mack the knife").

I only learned about them last night. There's some less zany stuff on the myspace page someone set up for them.

Re: What do you listen to?

Mainly listening to doom metal at the moment, generally the stuff that's got an icy Nordic feel to it. Favourite at the moment is Agalloch. I'm afraid it's far away from the Shakuhachi world in its essence but for some reason fits in perfectly to my slightly odd view of music. Shakuhachi one day, doom metal the next, Palestrina the next, Buckethead, etc...

Re: What do you listen to?

I often listen to Internet Radio and have been collecting stations from all around the world, I get to hear a lot of material I would otherwise seldom come into contact with, including languages.
Internet Radio is usually stereo and clear, and are mostly free from advertising.

Re: What do you listen to?

Internet radio is like the shortwave of yesteryear.I have a small shortwave that I listen to occasionally at night.

I was not conscious whether I was riding on the wind or the wind was riding on me.

Re: What do you listen to?

Then there was the 'crystal set' radio that you could construct yourself, didn't get much of a reception often but at the time was the best we had !

Re: What do you listen to?

I saw those. I have a little kaito shortwave. it cost me about $80 USD. It works pretty good. Its neat listening to stations on the other side of the world. I ought to see if i can find some stations from new zealand or australia.

The only part I think shakuhachi could've done better with is the muraiki at 7:00 minutes in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nnmp367SrU&NR=1
