Hi Dun,
Actually, now I know four mothers who play shakuhachi! Does your country have a mother's day?
Everyday should be mother's day !

This came up yesterday. Why isn't there a kids day? But then again everyday is kids day now isn't it.

may 5th was kids' day, kodomo no hi, in japan at any rate.... used to be boys' day, with hinamatsuri as girls' day, now it's just kids' day generally.... koi banners and little origami helmets.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children%2 … 28Japan%29

Yes, Perry, the Netherlands had last Sunday mothersday allright, like we have fathersday in June. And maybe you could say St Nicolas (december 5th) is a kind of a day for the children, though it's not called that way, but there are families together, presents, games and everything to make a happy evening for the kids.
It's culture, fun, but not shakuhachi related any longer.
