Re: What are the Pro's, Non-Pro's, Semi-Pro's, etc Practicing These Days?

Hi all,

my teacher is in Holidays and he gave me some extra work. I am in practice with 3 pieces of the "Fuke" school now. Hon te Choshi, Shin Seki and Hashi Gaishi. My teacher told me that Hashi Gaishi is the second part of HiFuMi, there are some very difficult notes in it. So I keep practice small parts of thoose three pieces. Kan is really getting better but I am still a beginner. Also my teacher recorded this pieces for me at the last lesson we had.

I also started my Tai Chi practice this month and I will practice more at the next month with some intensives. I am still on travel but I always keep one Shakuhachi on my way trough the town to practice alot.

Best wishes to you all from Germany!

Keep Blowing,

Christopher

Guten tag Christopher.

Wow, that's a lot to practice! I also travel with a shakuhachi everywhere I go. I had a student just leave for Berlin. He asked if he should take his shakuhachi. I said even if you just blow for a few minutes here and there, those brief moments may become some of the best memories of the trip.

Be well Perry

Yeah but thoose pieces are short ones, but it is still hard for me as you know. My teacher will be back in a few weeks and I have my next lesson soon. Shakuhachi really become a full time training smile but it is nice way and helps to forgot about the day stress.

Best wishes!

I don't know exactly what shakuhachi choir ideas Geni was talking about a few weeks ago, but this is what he had me do for my homework for tomorrow's lesson: http://www.4shared.com/file/127510315/4 … Choir.html

I'm thinking of maybe experimenting with barbershop quartet music.

Re: What are the Pro's, Non-Pro's, Semi-Pro's, etc Practicing These Days?

Hi all,

my teacher is back from hollidays and I had my lesson a few weeks ago. We played "Hon Te Choshi" and "Shin Seki" and my teacher sayed that it was good for now and my karis and meris are also good, so he gave me a new piece to practice with. Its called "Yamato" and have some difficult parts. I will focus my practice on "Yamato" and "Hachi Gaishi" and some basic tone and breath exercises now.

I am looking forward to getting a tuner to play with, I dont know if I play in pitch all the time. Also I am looking forward to have another lesson with Jim Franklin in October, cause I had my very first lesson with him...I hope this time I can get free from work.

Best wishes!

At the moment I'm working on "Sekino Gohon Matsu", "Banshiki-Cho", and beginning the long haul through "Yugao".  Oh, and a tiny piece called "Akatombo".  Although I'm basically working on "getting notes to sound consistent and in tune" and "making a piece sound musical" and will continue to do that for a long time.  smile

I'm trying not to completely butcher Sanya Sugagaki and Emu at the moment.

Re: What are the Pro's, Non-Pro's, Semi-Pro's, etc Practicing These Days?

Hi Guys,

after a few weeks of illness, i am slowly back in practice with Oboro Zuki and some basics. I am still feeling a little bit weak some days and my breath isnt strong but I think I will practice more in the next weeks. Also I am feeling a little bit tired of playing Shakuhachi (maybe cause the winter her), also there is alot of work and not much time for Shakuhachi sad

Best wishes,

Re: What are the Pro's, Non-Pro's, Semi-Pro's, etc Practicing These Days?

I found when I had a bit of an illness a few months ago, playing shakuhachi really helped. It got me breathing clearly and opened up my airways which made me feel a little better.

That said, take it easy, especially if you're not feeling too enamoured with the flute right now!

Gute Besserung Christopher!

The lunar starts this weekend, I think.  I heard it was the year of the Tiger.  A good time to practice Azuma Jishi.

Funny, I just saw a video of igil, played by a fellow with the handle 'oddmusic' on YouTube.  Igil, hang drum, HAPI drum, didgeridoo.  It was cool.

Even funnier, that was me wink  Found this long and interesting post while doing some research.  I'm a long-distance student of Ronnie's.  Currently working on Yuki, Horai, and Sanya Sugagaki

Oh awesome! Great job! I am apparently joining the Sanya Sukagaki crowd, along with Hokkai Minyo. Great pieces, although I have less time to practice with many life developments at the moment.

I have been working on patience since my pc is buged and I can't use skype since a lot of time ago!!!

Besides that I am always working on HonShirabe, Tamuke and Daha (these three on 1.8 and 3.0) and on Hifumi Hachigaeshi. Also, always trying to play the entire repertoire with some improvement!!!
