Hi Rodrigo
Congratulations on your videos. The shakuhachi sounds very nice. If I may offer some constructive criticism, as far as I know your commentator is mispronouncing the words "Tibet" and "Tibetan". Since he is educating us about Tibetan language and culture, it feels very strange that he doesn't know how to pronounce these words. As far as I know Tibet is not pronounced "Thai-bet", nor Tibetan "Thai-betan".

According to "wiktionary" it is pronounced in either of these 2 ways, here written in various phonetic systems:
enPR: tĭ-bĕt', tə-bĕt', IPA: /tɪˈbet/, /təˈbet/, SAMPA: /tI"bet/, /t@"bet/

I almost always here it as the former of these two.

There is a link on this American dictionary link (since your commentator has an American sounding acccent) for one of these 2 pronunciations:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tibet

I don't mean to sound picky, but since it is a documentary seemingly on Tibet I thought it should be rather important to know if it's not too late to change.

I've spent many years living with Tibetans but if I'm wrong on this I do apologise.

Thank you Rodrigo.
I also support Justin's suggestion.
I also noticed a few 'artifacts' on the audio track but enjoyed the playing anyway.

Yes. I enjoyed the audio also. Thanks for sharing.

If you listen before the audio has fully loaded, there may be some noise/distortion/interference. Perhaps you were experiencing that.

At the end of the fourth breath and through the fifth breath there is a 'hum' like some electronic interference  or perhaps an exterior machine.

It happens, particularly in 'home' studios.

Lovely playing nevertheless.

Dear Rodrigo,
Ah I understand now. Sorry, with your name at the beginning of the video I thought you had made the documentary! Great that you got the job for doing the music. Congratulations.

Yes, a long time! Was a fun time wasn't it. When are you coming back?
My study has been going well. I've gone kind of crazy studying honkyoku. I want to understand the repertoire as a whole, so I have been searching out the most authentic players of each part of the repertoire from the original regional styles of the Edo period. This has been a very interesting journey and continues to bring many interesting discoveries. I really enjoy learning the difference of nuance and technique between the different schools. Shimpo-ryu, Seien-ryu, Fudaiken-den etc. Each school has different gakufu too so that has been an interesting challenge to learn to read each one. Riley will be glad to know I'm reading "fu ho u" these days!

Sure. Are you going to Prague? Or if you come here to Japan come to visit.

Re: new music and videos documentary

Dear Justin,
Yes the name in the begining is a edition for promotional use on net, that all.

Wow nice to hear you are having a good training and discipline for the develoment of your shakuhachi.

I was in Japan for 1 month with Kohachiro Miyata in Mejiro ku, taking lessons.
I am going back to meet sensei probalby in a short time.

I have many job to do here in Spain, and later I have to perform in World flute festival Argentina.

I remeber you was doing some bisness with flutes in Japan, are you doing that now?

The maker of Miyata sensei is making my new flute 2.1, I cant wait the moment...smile

R.

Yes sure. Furuya-sensei and Yokoyama-sensei approved my flutes (I'm a maker in case you forgot) and after learning with Araki Kodo sensei and studying Araki-style of instrument Araki-sensei also approves my flutes. My study is ongoing as I learn more of the regional variations and so on. I spend so much time researching these days, and of course a portion of my time making - I find both inform the other.  Working slowly on some instruments for people and the occasional restoration is nice too. Lately I restored an extremely rare 3 piece shakuhachi made about 270 years ago for a client. And a hitoyogiri which may be a good deal older than that. This kind of work I really enjoy doing.

Have fun in Argentina.
