Determining the size of a shaku

Is there a way to determine the size of the shaku (1.8 1.9 2.0)? because I have no idea how to do that.

1/10 of a shaku equals 3.03 centimeters.

To find the length of a 2.0 in centimeters:

3.03 x 20 = 60.6 centimeters.

Or the length of a 1.8:

3.03 x 18 = 54.54 centimeters.

Re: Determining the size of a shaku

Please note:

Just to confuse things a tad (hey, it's shakuhachi!), there is a convention in shakuhachi nomenclature whereby a flute pitched in C is called a 2.0, even
though it's not 60.6cm long.

So, often, pitch is more important in naming a flute than its actual length in shaku.

Also, the system breaks down quite a bit after you get above 2.4. See here: http://reibo.org/shaklengths.html

After dealing with many different nomenclatures and concepts I think of length as length and pitch as pitch. So I'll say 2.0 for a flute that's 2.0 in length. I have some that are C and some that are B. Or in-between. Those are 2.0's. If I want a C flute I'll say "C flute" because that could be anywhere from 1.85-2.1 depending on bore width.
