Measuring the length

When measuring the length of an piece of bamboo, for say calculating hole placement, at what point of the utaguchi end do you measure to? The longest point? The inner part of the blowing edge? So point in between?

Re: Measuring the length

I measure from the high point rather than the bottom of the utaguchi curve.
I regard this high point as the 'centre' of the hole formed by the utaguchi curve, then I am measuring from 'point to point', each point being the centre of each hole.

When measurijng for the thumb hole I take into consideration that the chin rest is also lower than the high point, so that the thumb hole is also calculated from the high point.

So far so good.
