New Yamaguchi Goro Youtube posting by John Singer

I have put a rare video performance from NHK of my teacher, Yamaguchi Goro performing his favorite Sankyoku piece "Yaegoromo".
I hope you all enjoy it.

Do you happen to know why it was his favorite? (Just curious.)

The other parts are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwFmNYLQ … re=related

and: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA4gqRGh … re=related

I'm surprised with how few views the second two parts got. I know part one barely sounded like music to my Western ears, but the piece gets rolling in the second two parts in a manner that should be totally palatable to most peoples musical senses.

Does anybody know what the Japanese captions at several points in the video mean?

The captions are the lyrics as they're being sung. Go here: http://www.komuso.com/pieces/Yaegoromo.html to see the English translation of the five short poems around which the tune was written.
Just so you know, the lady on the left (on koto) is Yonekawa Toshiko, Living National Treasure until her passing in 2005. That's her daughter, Yonekawa Hiroe playing shamisen. It still astounds me that they can play this 30-minute piece from memory...(even Yamaguchi's got his music out).

I enjoy watching Yamaguchi Goro play almost as much as hearing him. Such a dignified, selfless economy of expression.

Dear BBQ Administration ,  please ask Mr. Singer if he would allow usage of his exemplary new avatar as an automatic response to any and all posts by the ubiquitous  Mr. Christian Moran,  with all due respects, of course.

Mr.WuWu Look what you did! The John Singer Scream avatar has vanished! He replaced it with a pic of his $12,000,000,000 Araki 4-piece (--not that it's a punishment, of course).

But, anyway ... L@@K what you did!  BAD, Ba-a-a-a-ad, Mr.WuWu!

Okay. Sorry folks. Now please go to John Singer's latest post about 2 more great videos that he has posted on YouTube.

Re: New Yamaguchi Goro Youtube posting by John Singer

Mr. Chris Moran is absolutely correct,  I must publicly apologize for my rude posting and behavior.    That avatar of John Singer was ingenious, artful, and deprecatingly humourous and due to my musings seemed to have caused a ruckus that led to it's replacement with a more staid ,  less effective statement.       I am sorry.       Please bring it back,  Mr. Singer, Respectfully,  C.M.          Maybe this is a wake-up call for all our members to change our avatars every now and then to keep the fire burning, to keep the creative juices flowing,  to see big sky,  ride the tunnel of love, and swim with the whales of Ro.

Odd that Chris Moran should admonish me in this way Baaad!  Baaadddd!! Mr Wu Wu!   Mr. WuWu is my cat, and I yell at him all the time in those exact words.  I am experiencing a weird kind of role playing reversal which is very uncomfortable.   No Thanks to you , Mr, Moran
