Television Feature

Greetings Everyone

If you get a few minutes (actually 23 minutes) please watch this episode of Rhythm and Roots which aired this week on EBRU Television. (Don't worry, I'd never heard of them either.) It's about my group Ensemble East, and has performances and interviews. The series explores traditional music from various cultures. We play "Haru no Yo" and "O-Koto" as well as solos and there are extensive interviews.

Wishing you all the best.  -James

Re: Television Feature

Well done James and EE.  Though the show may be obscure, it was well done in terms of exposing people to music that they might otherwise find impenetrable on their own.  It had a good technical and aesthetic presentation and didn't sell that actual performance short on time as these types of shows often do.  Bravo!

Re: Television Feature

Thanks all of you for the thoughtful and positive comments. I thought that they did a pretty good job of it. They are used to doing profiles on groups that play 3-5 minute songs, so when I told them that ours were 18 and 20 minutes, they kind of freaked, but then we agreed on doing sections of the pieces. Not my first choice but hey... it's television.

Re: Television Feature

I laughed out loud when you said, "Let's put it this way....it's not a large movement!"

When Masayo said Japanese music is not as popular as Western, I don't know if the American viewer would understand that this is also true in Japan, not just in America.

Excellent show and the music was nice. Made me miss being in NYC.

Re: Television Feature

Very enjoyable!

I wish Ensemble East had videos on YouTube so I could see and hear more of your performances.
