Mitsuhashi Kifu and others at Carnegie Hall and Columbia University

This season Carnegie Hall is holding a Japan/NYC festival which has been curated by the ailing Seiji Ozawa. While the vast majority of the programming has been, predictably, classical music written and performed by Japanese musicians, the week before last was a refreshing nod to traditional Japanese instruments, with a performance of Takemitsu's seminal work "November Steps," and an all-hogaku concert the next day  at Columbia University's Miller Theater. Mitsuhashi Kifu and Yukio Tanaka were the featured soloists in the Takemitsu, and they were joined by koto virtuoso Nishi Yoko and myself for the hogaku program. Here are the reviews that appeared in the NY Times for each.
