Adding shakuhachi cap size, utaguchi measurements, weight

Just a few thoughts that may help people sell shakuhachi with more information for buyers.

List cap size if you know it or use this chart for reference.

(even approximate cap size within half a size is useful info.)

List outside of utaguchi-end diameter from left to right side.

List top of inside of bore-width at the utaguchi-end from left to right side.

List circumference measurement between the 2nd and 3rd holes in centimeters.

List weight in grams

List exact length measurement of your particular instrument in centimeters.

Re: Adding shakuhachi cap size, utaguchi measurements, weight

Mr Moran, in your honoured estimation, would these data then help me sell many shakuhachi-flutes?
All information in mm (millimeter)

Only if you hand write them.

A simpler descriptive list addition which would also prove helpful:

List cap size if you know it or use this chart for reference.

(even approximate cap size within half a size is useful info.)

List weight in grams

List exact length measurement of your particular instrument in centimeters.

Re: Adding shakuhachi cap size, utaguchi measurements, weight

Some of these measurements are kind of hard to get. Weight is kind of easy if I ever buy a postal scale. I guess outside circumferences and diameters can be measured by wrapping a non-stretchy string around and measuring, then dividing by 3.14 to get diameter. The inside diameters at the utaguchi is difficult to get with a ruler because the mouthpiece is usually rounded, and because of parallax using a straight-edge measurement device don't work well. A caliper kind of measurement instrument would work for this (and the other outside diameters).

The length can be problematic too. If there is any kind of curve to the flute, you can't measure it with a straight-edge.

Does anybody have suggestions of how to accurately make some of these measurements? And, is there anyway to do it without investing much in measurement devices?
