Hello from North Carolina

Hi. My name is David. I am very new to this forum, and only slightly older to the shakuhachi.
I am a professional musician and music teacher, primary instrument saxophone, having added a variety of wooden flutes to my repertoire during the years. I've had an interest in the shakuhachi since I first heard it in the 80s, but didn't actually purchase one until last year. Since then, I have come to rely on my shakuhachi sound-making as a way to slow down and get centered. After about 20 minutes, I feel the "bamboo buzz."
Now that I am exploring the shakuhachi, I realize that the sounds I have been trying to create for decades (with other instruments) are really shakuhachi sounds. I feel like I've come home.

Zen is not easy.
It takes effort to attain nothingness.
And then what do you have?
Bupkes.
