Tomorrow night (September 30th) I'll be playing a concert in Nakagawa mura, Nagano prefecture, with a folk blues player named Fujishima Koichi, accompanying his national steel guitar on shakuhachi and harmonica. I'll be playing one or two honkyoku but will mostly be providing improvizational accompaniment for Fuji's own compositions; Fuji has his own unique style, influenced by Delta blues and his life as a traveling busker/painter over the last two decades in Europe, the U.S., Turkey, New Zealand, and Japan. Slides of red and black sumi ink paintings of his travels will be projected during the show. The event is called Music Live in Nakagawa and will be held in an outdoor location in the hills above the Naka river valley at a place called Nakagawa Sound Hall, starting at 6:30 p.m. Nakagawa is a small town in southern Nagano prefecture. Information as to the location can be had at 0265-88-3395 or 0265-88-3987. For anyone who wishes to have a look at Fuji's artwork or listen to a sound clip of his music check out http://www.h3dion.ne.jp/~mojofuji/
