"ee"

I'm leaning kyorei.  There is a katakana for "ee"  in the third line.  What is the difference between "ee" and the upper register "ro?"

Same pitch, played differently (it has a very different timbre or tone color from ro). In terms of how you finger it, it's a ri with your thumb off.
