Tozan anyone?

Greetings,

That's right I am a Tozan shakuhachi player.

My name is Dominic Cammarota and I have been studying Tozan music for the last 5 Years. I have been studying with Sholom Shozan Gold Sensei in New York City. I have also studied some Kinko with Ralph Samuelson Sensei.

I am a co-founder of the Japanese Music festival held annually in New York City.

If you are a Tozan player please contact me, especially if you are in the N.Y. or  L.A. area.

Just a point to everyone in the US: With interest rates rising take advantage and start saving toward going to Australia in 2008. "Maybe we could charter a flight."

Best to all
Dominic

Re: Tozan anyone?

Hi there. I'm also mostly Tozan! I studied Tozan for two years in Hiroshima. I'm from Ireland and living at home at the moment. I have a background as a flute/recorder teacher/performer. I also make my own shakuhachi and teach shakuhachi in Dublin. I have studied with teachers from other ryuu-ha like chikuho and Zensabo. At the recent European summer school, Tozan players were a small minority (maybe around 5 out of 50). Let me know if there is anything I can help you with-finding scores, recordings, etc.

Re: Tozan anyone?

Hi ! Thank you for your propositions. I've already about 120 tozan scores ; but I would be very interested if you had a good and complete tozan (and only tozan) fingering chart for my students.

Re: Tozan anyone?

Do you have the Neptune fingering chart? It's very comprehensive. It is in Volume I of the Annals. I can post you a copy if you send me your address.

Zen is not easy.
It takes effort to attain nothingness.
And then what do you have?
Bupkes.

TOZAN CHART

For those who also want a decent Tozan chart, I have uploaded the pages (two JPEG files) to a host here (direct links to files, so a right-
click and 'save target/link as' will download them):

     Tozan Chart Left

     Tozan Chart Right

If you trim off the right side of the LEFT page at the gray line, the two pages should mate nicely.

I have not printed these files, but I think they'll work fine; they are scanned at 240 ppi.
