In conjunciton with the the dong zhi winter solstice festival (touji taisai in Japan), at the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Alcvin Takegawa Ramos and Satomi Saeki Edwards will be holding a party for the release of their new CD: Japanese Traditional Koto and Shakuhachi on the Montreal music label, Oliver Sudden Productions. They will be performing pieces from the CD in the beautiful new room, The Hall of a One Hundred Rivers. Tea will be served and there will be lots of CDs for sale!

Dong Zhi is the shortest day and longest night of the year and is a time when friends and family gather together, exchange gifts, and eat, drink, and laugh long into the deep, dark night to mark the rebirth of yang qualities of light and warmth as winter waxes and spring approaches. Enjoy a magical celebration of Dong zhi at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sun Classical Chinese Garden & Public Park as we host the Secret Lantern Society's 13th Annual Winter Solstice Festival for Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside from 6:30 – 10:00pm. Join a procession from Science World or Strathcona Community Centre at 6:00pm. Then a performance and CD release party of koto and shakuhachi from Alcvin Takegawa Ramos and Satomi Saeki in The Hall of One Hundred Rivers. Then wintess the night come alive by following the sea of hand-made lanterns and the compelling rhythms of drummers to our magical Garden.
