I have a flute that a friend gave me years ago but I've never played it and never will. I'd love to sell it but don't have a clue what it's worth. I have a photo and it appears to have a Japanese inscription on it as well. The person that gave it to me is a very highly respected Japanese Sword Sharpener so he was in Japan studying a lot years ago so I'm sure it's the real thing. If someone could look at the photos, email me at elisd@cox.net and I'll email them to you. Thanks, Elisabeth

Ciao Elisabeth,
Why don't you send me the photo? I can't appraise it by that but I could tell you whether or not it's worth getting appraised. If it is I can do that also but you'll have to send me the flute.
Regards,
BR

Hi elisdinsb,
Shakuhachi flutes are like cars. It is worth as much as the interested or informed person is willing to pay. Knowing the maker, as Tairaku pointed out, will only let you know whether it is worth appraising. An old T-Bird can be a worth a lot if it's in good condition. But it may also turn out to be a clunker only good for parts.
Tairaku may be one of the most informed people around that can offer an expert evaluation.
Maybe someone can come up with a shakuhachi Blue Book?
Good luck, it sounds like a fine flute. Perry

I know many of you are waiting by your computers in a state of suspense wondering what the appraisal will turn up.
I looked at the photos and it was a xiao.
