Greetings to all. Sorry to say that I do not play shakuhachi, but I enjoy what I have heard and I would like to learn. I know it's a lot of work and years of studying. I have my reasons for wanting to learn. Thanks for this forum....for me it's a start.

Despite what everyone says about years of practice etc (and it's all true), consider this: you can start now, this instant, and your start will be complete in itself. Don't wait until you have time for practice - you have the time now. When you start, don't think you have to wait until you are proficient on the instrument before you can make music - you can make it now, with whatever skill you have today.
... and that goes for any instrument!

There is a shakuhachi teacher in North Carolina. His name is Clarence Dozan Ledbetter. He is a fine player from the Tozan school and his wife plays koto. I don't know him but here's a link:
