Alexander Technique.

Has anyone applied AT to playing shakuhachi? Any thoughts?

Regards,

Harry.

Re: Alexander Technique.

There is certainly a lot of common sense and good advice in AT. However, one's experience of it can vary greatly from teacher to teacher. I have also heard warnings of becoming obsessed with alinement and turning into an Alexandrian... Personally I think there is more wisdom in alternative therapies such as yoga and tai chi. Developing one's awareness of relaxation is crucial and in many cases the key to a solid technique and avoidance of injuries.

Re: Alexander Technique.

As I recall, Alexander is one of the sources Christopher Yohmei draws on in his relaxation/stability workshops; I don't remember whether it shows up in his books.

Somebody started a discussion on body mapping here on the forum some time ago, too.
