Would people who have had the opportunity to play and gain a true familiarity with the shakuhachi of many different makers be able to generalize about the distinguishing traits associated with the flutes of maker x as opposed to maker y? Is anyone willing to take a shot at what makes a Gyoksui a Gyoksui and a Shigemi a shigemi and a Rampo a Rampo and so on?
It would be very interesting to me to see an attempt at the creation of a comprehensive list of shakuhachi makers, passed and living, with perhaps some key descriptive traits of those makers.
I also think it would also be interesting to create a directory of makers as a sub-section of this forum that would allow both the US based and Japanese makers to present an artist’s statement and contact information.
